Review: Ten Good and Bad Things About My Life (So Far)

Title: Ten Good and Bad Things About My Life (So Far)
Author: Ann M. Martin
Ages: 8-12
Favorite Character: Pearl and JBIII

I think people would like this book because Pearl and JBIII are trying to look for a job and earn money for their families. Pearl’s dad lost his job and she feels like they can’t do anything or have anything expensive. They can’t even have pizza and watch movies!

I like how Pearl expressed her feelings in the book. I would feel the same way because I would never want my dad to lose his job.

They were going to go on a Wild West trip with their Daddy Boo. But they couldn’t afford to go. Pearl felt really sad because she was looking forward to going on the trip and telling her friends all about it.

Even though it sounds sad, they still had some exciting parts like having coffee and going to their favorite places. Like Pearl went on a subway and there were some funny moments.

Review: The Big Something

Title: The Big Something
Author:Patricia Reilly Giff
Ages: 5-8
Favorite Character: Jilli and Fiercely

Fiercely was digging a hole to China and Jilli and Jim thought the dog was lost.

Jilli thought next door there was a witch. They thought it was Hansel and Gretel’s house because the witch was on a ladder painting ice cream cones and gumdrops on the wall.

Actually she was painting a school for Jilli and Jim. And she wasn’t a witch, she was a teacher.

I liked this book because it was kind of cute how they thought the school was Hansel and Gretel’s house, so they went inside and saw a whole bunch of old stuff like gummi bears on the floor. There were also cobwebs all over the walls.

Review: Ivy + Bean: No News is Good News

Title: Ivy + Bean: No News is Good News
Author: Annie Burrows
Ages: 6-10
Best For: Girls
Favorite Character: Ivy and Bean

Ivy and Bean were in their school lunch when they figured out they wanted Belldeloon cheese. They tried to come up with a way to make money to buy it. They finally figured out to make newspapers to get the money.

I like this book because Ivy and Bean were very clever in coming up with the newspaper idea. This book is kind of cute because the newspaper was about their town, Pancake Court.

I like both characters because they both are very smart and they always can find the right idea. Ivy is a girlie girl like me and Bean is a tomboy.

When you start this series you want to read every single one of them. But I think this book is the best one out of the Ivy + Bean series thus far!

Review: Heart to Heart Mallory

Book: Heart to Heart Mallory
Author: Laurie Friedman
Illustrator: Barbara Pollak
Ages: 7-11
Best For: Girls
Favorite Character:: Mallory & Mary Ann

I liked this book a lot because it was interesting and I really wanted to find out what happened next. Like, would Mary Ann’s mom and Joey’s dad fall in love? And they did.

I understood how Mallory felt. When Mallory was scared because she didn’t want Mary Ann’s mom and Joey’s dad to fall in love, I would be scared too. Because then both of them would be her neighbors.

My favorite part was when they had the Valentine’s Party at Joey’s house. Mallory wasn’t that excited and didn’t really like Valentine’s Day. Then she went to Joey’s house and at the very end Mallory started talking to Joey. She went home and read all her Valentine’s cards and she found out her secret admirer was Joey. Then she started liking Valentine’s Day.

Review: Ivy + Bean – Break the Fossil Record

Book: Break the Fossil Record (Ivy + Bean, Book 3)
Author: Annie Barrows
Ages: 7-12
Best For: Girls
Favorite Line: “He stuck one hundred and fifty-nine clothespins on his face!” shouted Eric. “Look at him!”

I really liked the book. My favorite character is Bean because she wanted to break all the world records, world records I like to do.

I also liked the part where Bean discovered the bones. My favorite part of the story is when Bean and Ivy thought the bones were dinosaur bones but they were really dog bones. I want to read all the books. I’m so into this book, I couldn’t put it down. When my mom said to do something, I pretended I couldn’t hear her. This is my favorite book I read of Ivy + Bean.
