Review: Magic Up Your Sleeve

Book: MAGIC UP YOUR SLEEVE: Amazing Illusions, Tricks, and Science Facts You’ll Never Believe
Author: Helaine Becker
Ages: 8+
Best For: Boys and Girls

I think it’s a wonderful magic book. Its great to do on your parents like I did some on mine. The magic trick I love is More Than Meets The Eye. A trick that starts off by two coins and a stick. I look at the stick with the coins being seen on both sides of the stick and I see three. Amazing! I think this would be a great magic book for both boys and girls. It’s a great way to teach beginners.

Review: Chicagoland Detective Agency – The Maltese Mummy

Book: Chicagoland Detective Agency 2: The Maltese Mummy
Author: Trina Robbins
Illustrator: Tyler Page
Ages: 9-11
Best For: Girls and Boys
Favorite Character: Megan Yamamura

Raf and Megan and their talking dog Bradley run a private detective agency. There’s a concert happening at the school and Meg wants to go but Raf is sick. She invites her friend William. A mummy goes missing from the museum the very same time the rock star Sun shows up. As Megan and William are walking home, William gets snatched while she’s not looking. Raf thinks there is something up with Sun. Bradley smells something about him too.

I loved this story because there’s a talking dog in it. I wish I had a dog that could talk to me! Megan is helpful in trying to solve the mystery. I really liked the mummy too. I think boys and girls should read this because most people would like to grow up as a detective. I love this story because it has a lot of graphics in it with super cool stuff that happens.

Review: Ghostopolis

Book: Ghostopolis
Author: Doug TenNapel
Ages: 10-13
Best For: Boys
Favorite Character: Garth

This story is about a detective who is chasing a ghost and ends up in Garth’s house. The ghost is covered plasma cuffs and accidently sends Garth to the After life.

I liked this story because they go to the After life with a bunch of creepy guys who funny like King of the Boogie-men. I like Garth because he has special powers to defeat a King that is stronger than him.

I would recommend this book to boys because there is a lot of fighting and action that will get you hooked.
